Thunder and Lightning In Jan?

Temperature readings in Canada are measured in Celcius.
Celcius to Fahrenheit formula

It was still mild here yesterday but cooler than what we have been having as of late. The temps were only a couple of degrees above freezing for most of the daylight hours and stayed there into the evening. Some rain showers began in the late afternoon with more steady rain after dark. The temperature began to rise, reaching +9,and we had thunder and lightning beginning around 11PM.It was one of the worst electrical storms we have had here for awhile, very intense lightning accompanied by loud and long claps of thunder. The rain was almost torrential during that time.
This morning the rain has ended and it is still mild.We are expecting another warm day with a few showers.
