Something amusing...

Check out this website: http://www.rescue-team.webs.com/

This is the ‘brainchild’ of some idiot that just hasn’t figured out that during times of storms,or most other natural disasters, there is no electricity and sometimes no phone service.I just wonder how this individual expects to be able to ‘link up’ radio comms through the internet in an actual emergency situation? We just went through Hurricane Bill and there were many times that we had no power and no internet. We were still able to have local radio comms through various on air networks using our radios on battery power and that was all we needed..Sure,we could have connected to the internet via a cellular or dial up link but those systems do not support VoIP comms very well and I doubt that someone a couple of thousands of kilometers away on a ‘net link’ would have been able to offer us very much assistance had we needed it.In my opinion, comms from outside of the area would have had a negative effect on our local comms. Our VHF,HF and 11 meter nets worked very well and we were well in control of the situation.

Maybe someday they’ll try using that bone-head system in an actual situation and when some gets hurt,or worse, they’ll realize that it wasn’t such a good idea. The real scary thing is,the system these guys are attempting to implement into ‘official use’ is a hobby system….it never was intended for this type of activity.I’m sure that if the system’s owners knew about it,they’d put an abrupt halt to it before they are held liable for any consequences that arise through it’s use in an emergency.
