14 April 2010

Conditions in Liverpool,NS at 6:42:13 AM : -2.1°C | Clear | Wind: N 6 km/h

 (Normals: Max: 9°C Min: 0°C)

It was quite cool here yesterday with temps only in the +10°C range. The best part of the day was the late afternoon/early evening when the wind died out and there was some sunshine.Prior to that, there were periods of clouds and a brisk northerly breeze. The evening was clear but quite cool with temps dipping below the freezing point…..the first time it’s been that low for quite a few weeks.

Today is expected to be similar to yesterday and there’s a chance that we may see a few flurries tonight and into tomorrow….gotta love Nova Scotia in the spring!! The cool weather is expected to stay for the rest of this week.

Today -- Sunny. Increasing cloudiness early this afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h near noon. High 8 except plus 5 along parts of the coast. UV index 5 or moderate.

Tonight -- Cloudy. 30 percent chance of rain showers after midnight then 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers overnight. Wind southwest 20 km/h becoming light near midnight. Low plus 1.

Thursday -- Cloudy. 60 percent chance of flurries or rain showers early in the morning. Rain showers beginning in the morning. Rainfall amount 2 to 4 mm. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h near noon. High 8 except plus 5 along parts of the coast.

Friday -- A mix of sun and cloud. Low minus 2. High 9.

  • Today’s Weather Trivia:

April 14,1897: A French fishing vessel bound for Miquelon struck an iceberg on the Grand Banks. Only 7 survived. On the fifth day of their ordeal, crazed by their experiences and in desperation, the survivors were driven to cannibalism and ate the dead. Cold, hungry, suffering from thirst, and worn from rowing, the sailors were so badly frostbitten that their arms had to be amputated.

The Moon is "new" at 7:29 a.m. CDT today as it crosses the imaginary line between Earth and Sun. It is lost from view in the Sun's glare. It will return to view as the barest of crescents not long after sunset tomorrow.
