Today’s Weather Trivia:

April 25,1950: Not since 1826 had there been so much water in Manitoba's Red River Valley. Winds drove choppy waves against thin sandbag barriers guarding Winnipeg's southern approach. Plunging temperatures threatened river freeze-up and ice blocks hammering towns. Blizzards hampered rescue work and brought hardship to thousands of homeless and to those who had no heat due to flooded furnaces.– Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada
