  • Today’s Weather Trivia:

April 8,1881: During thick fog, a train from Hamilton, ON, backed into the train station at Barrie, ON, and collided with a freight train, killing an engineer and injuring several others. The force of the collision drove the tender into the passenger coach, wrecking it, the engine, a baggage car, and some flat cars. Visibility was so poor that those on the platform could not see the train 0.5 km away.– Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada

Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, slides across the southwest this evening. The star is well up in the south-southwest as darkness falls, and sets by around midnight. It twinkles fiercely as it drops nearer the horizon.
