Today’s Weather Trivia:

12 January 1903: A rare chinook, packing some of the strongest winds ever, ripped through parts of Yukon. Telegraph service was knocked out, ending an unusually lengthy period (3 days) of uninterrupted communications between Dawson and the outside world. The warm, dry blast melted up to 0.5 m of snow in a flash. Repairs to telegraph lines proceeded very slowly. -Excerpt from 'The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar' by David Phillips. © Environment Canada
