21 February 1999: Fog was blamed for a massive power outage affecting 14,000 homes in Calgary, AB. A hydro official explained that thick fog moistened electrical insulators, knocking out 2 major substations. At this time of year, moisture combines with the build-up of dirt and road salt, creating voltage leaks that result in frequent power outages.
