Today's weather trivia: 8 December

2003: Two paramedics parachuted to a beacon thinking it was a downed plane
740 km northwest of Edmonton, AB. The blaze turned out to be a natural gas
flare burning for at least 2 decades. The men could not slow down and landed
in a tree about 30 m up. The two were not injured, but it was cold (-27°C).
Using the flare for warmth, they camped out before being picked up the next
day by a helicopter.
