Yesterday was quite stormy as the 'blizzard of 2013' blew through the
area.The day started with strong winds,light snow and ice pellets.The wind
died down in the evening but snowfall increased.Snowfall amounts are hard to
measure due to drifting but we did not receive the predicted 50 cms.My best
estimate is somewhere between 20 to 25 cms for my area.Coastal and western
areas seemed to take the brunt of the storm with lots of wind damage from
Shelburne to Yarmouth.
The wind is still brisk this morning but the snow has ended.Today will be a
good cleanup day with temps just a little below freezing.Warmer weather is
expected this week with rain a good possibility on Tuesday.

Today..Mainly cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries this morning.
Clearing this afternoon. Local blowing snow. Wind north 40 km/h
gusting to 70. High minus 3.
Tonight..Clear. Wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming light
before morning. Low minus 9 except minus 14 in low lying inland
areas.
Monday..Sunny. Increasing cloudiness in the afternoon then flurries
or rain showers beginning in the evening. Wind becoming southwest
20 km/h in the afternoon then south 30 gusting to 50 in the evening.

Today's weather trivia: 10 February 2001: Near Landsdowne, ON, 100 km/h
winds shook a brick farmhouse and swept away a 4 x 15 m stable housing 17
prized horses. Armed with a flashlight, the owners found a horse trapped
underneath the rubble. The horse could stand and walk but was very
uncomfortable. He died 12 hours later from internal injuries. A little filly
was found nearby with a broken neck; other horses suffered cuts and bruises.
