Today's weather trivia: 5 March 1944: A group of loggers at a camp 40 km
east of Pine Falls, MB, waited hours in a blinding blizzard in order to
donate blood to the Canadian Red Cross. Snow-blocked roads prevented the
medical staff from arriving. By the time they did arrive, they were faced by
a gang of food-starved donors. Despite the weather, the staff reported an
exceptionally high blood count.
